congusbongusgames<p>Found some time to blog lately and wrote about map distances being misleading, how the sense of space is much more about travel time than the physical distance</p><p><a href="https://cxong.github.io/2025/04/the-map-is-not-the-territory" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">cxong.github.io/2025/04/the-ma</span><span class="invisible">p-is-not-the-territory</span></a></p><p>This seems obvious but time and time again maps mislead us - the map is not the territory, particularly when modes of transport are considered. Iago Pereira<p>"Wait, what if pokemon... Is just 'shamanism' flattened into a pop culture product?" - This thought actually ocurred to me during an ayahuasca trip in the amazon jungle.</p><p>It felt like there was a caboclo, a dead indigenous spirit, talking to me. Weary Wulf<p>[S] I had an inconvenient flash of inspiration while we were in the bathroom. I think I can clearly define what "Phallusitude" is, and thus why Split-Fiction has it more than Duke Nukem 3D!</p><p>Okay! Phallusitude is: An intense form of very toxic bonding over the needlessly violent abuse/bullying of others.</p><p>Necessary factors are: It must take itself seriously; The abusers must be in a position of power over their victim, where they have options other than abuse.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a></p>
Weary Wulf<p>[P] I've been thinking of something my partner said, lately. It turns out that the more I look into this, the more true it is in an Absolute sense. As in, this has transcended from being a gut feeling into a fact. The closer you get to AAA in gamedev, the higher the chance that the project will be arbitrarily male lead, even if there's a woman serving as the figurehead. This can be measured in the style of the game. Split Fiction set me on this path.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a></p><p>-1</p>

Weary Wulf<p>[P] Not having cPTSD is a privilege, too. Still, expecting kindness from hiverarchy is like expecting a door to lead somewhere new &amp; magical, rather than to this painful reality of many cruel monsters. Narnia's great and all, but we're stuck here with our hiraeth. It's why we really do love schmaltzy tales of healing like Neurodiver. Hiverarchy can have its billions of tales about punishing &amp; abusing othernsss, I'll take &amp; adore the kind stories they hate.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a></p><p>-1</p>

Weary Wulf<p>[P] I have mixed feelings about the ending of the dragon part of Split Fiction. I wish the corruption hadn't taken the form of a dragon as I'm super-iffy about dragonslaying symbolically. It's a message of "Make the other suffer! Yes, we know you thirst for it!" So that's a big, black mark. However! It is redeemed somewhat by working with two dragons to take down the corruption. I just wish they hadn't made the corruption dragon-shaped.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/humans" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>humans</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/videogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>videogames</span></a></p><p>-1</p>

Weary Wulf<p>[P] Hiverarchy enacts such casual evil, with such ease, at such a grand scale that it'd bring a tear of pride to Stalin's eye. Breaking it down, the following exist because hiverarchy: billionaires (and wealth in general), wars, ECT/ICT, ABA, the Judge Rotenberg Center (and thousands of other, similar institutions of torture), systemic bigotries, scapegoating, et al. Those shackles limit their perception enough to get out of bed in the morning.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/videogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>videogames</span></a></p><p>-4</p>
Weary Wulf<p>[P] I've been wondering about what it takes to get a person's idealism target to flip. Whether it's a certain score threshhold for the Dark Triad, neurodiversity, or some combination. I idealise healers much as hiverarchy idealises and idolises parasitic wealthmongers who score highly on the Dark Triad. What got me thinking about this? Well, believe it or not, Ripley, it was an unintentionally interesting Neurodiver user review.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/videogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>videogames</span></a></p><p>-1</p>

Weary Wulf<p>[P] This is why I define myself as ever the dragon; never the slayer. The dragon isn't the slayer, because the slayer is defined by an unwillingness. The slayer is unwilling to try to communicate, coexist, cohabitate, cohabituate, and/or seek mutualistic symbiosis. Anyone whom that doesn't apply to isn't a slayer. It's why the concept behind the Monster Hunter games is rspugnant to me. If you have the power to kill, you also have the power to choose better.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a></p>
Weary Wulf<p>[P] I've finally gotten the chance to play Cavern of Dreams. I've had such a smile on my face the whole while. I haven't felt so sincerely young in a long time. I don't know what magic this game wields, but it's effective. I mean, yes, I got to heal a techno-organic sapient turtle airship as a baby dragon, sure... but it's somehow more than the sum of its parts. The airship, Mr. Kerrington, revealing that no one had been kind to him before kinda hit me hard.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a></p><p>-1</p>

Weary Wulf<p>[P] On the flipside, Neurodiver was exactly what the doctor ordered.<br>[S] Hooray for healing minds! My favourite thing to do!<br>[P] As incredible as it is, though? That ending is... mh. It's something I see in media a lot and it's based upon deeply flawed older studies that pseudosciency types have clung to. That happens, sometimes. Phrenology was a thing for a depressingly long time. Anyway, the issue is with merging—it never works.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/videogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>videogames</span></a></p><p>-1</p>
Weary Wulf<p>[P] I've finally gotten the chance to play Neurodiver and I ADORE it. I'm bwing a healer of minds so of course I do, that's always going to get a tail awag. Still, in looking up the game to see what others thought of it? It was largely feminine names that found the neurodiver cute. *blorp!* I... don't know how to feel about that, but it does add to a growing body of evidence I'm seeing from a... variety of angles. Hm. More data is always good.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/videogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>videogames</span></a></p><p>-1</p>
Weary Wulf<p>[P] I really want to see a study regarding Monster Hunter players, vis-a-vis Dark Triad score and degrees of being unbothered by displays of extreme pain. I'm of the mindset that the only way someone would enjoy that without being bothered much is due to a lack of overall empathy. I think Monster Hunter is a Dark Triad magnet, and only serves to amplify Dark Triad traits in those who are uncomfortable yet feel peer-pressured to play.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/videogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>videogames</span></a></p>
Weary Wulf<p>[P] This is super-interesting considering my recent yammering about higher Dark Triad scores correlating with a love of acts of cruelty in video games (Monster Hunter with cries of pain and limping, et al):</p><p><a href="https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S019188691730702X" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">sciencedirect.com/science/arti</span><span class="invisible">cle/abs/pii/S019188691730702X</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/psychology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>psychology</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gamedesign" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gamedesign</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/videogames" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>videogames</span></a></p>
